Contouring
Contouring is like a form of art on your face.
When done right, it poses as an optical illusion to make your face look slimmer and more defined.
What is Contouring?
Contouring is a way of adding definition to your face with color but creating a sense of balance. If this look is achieved right, it looks amazing! But when done wrong...you'll just look like you have brown spots / lines on your face...so you'll want to make sure the colors are blended out evenly.
Contouring can:
Create the illusion of a straighter, thinner nose
Elongate the face structure (especially if you have a round face)
Make the forehead look smaller
Give depth to your face structure as a whole
What to use:
When looking for a shade to contour with, look for something that is similar to your skin tone but 1 or 2 shades darker. Stick to a warmer shade in tans and browns.
Where to apply color:
By looking at the photo, you can see where contouring is usually applied:
Nose
Temples
Cheeks
Jawline
How to contour your nose to make it look slimmer
To give your nose a slimmer look, apply the darkest color to the outside of the bridge. By keeping the center of the nose lighter, this is the part that is highlighted. Thus, making the appearance smaller. Simply sweep bronzer along the sides of the nose, leaving the top of the bridge bare.
How to contour your jawline
To give your face definition and an overall slimmer appearance, sweep bronzer under your jawline to make the area appear to recede. Lighter makeup colors used in areas such as your cheek bones and brow bones will highlight those areas, bringing the attention to those and making it appear more prominent.

When your face is as round as mine, contouring is a necessity!
ReplyDeleteMy friend works for NARS product development and she told me to use two foundations to get a super natural contour. It's tricky, but worth it for special occasions.
I'm too scared to try contouring, because I might end up looking like a freak, haha.
ReplyDeleteBut it's worth the try!
This is great, I really need to learn how to do this... now I'm going to start practicing!
