Motivational Monday: New Year Encouragement

Happy NYE everyone! I am sure we all have that New Year Resolution we didn’t achieve this year. Maybe that goal is one we are  now determined to do in the upcoming year. With the new year among us, I know most of you already have your "resolutions" in mind for what you want to achieve. Maybe it is the same one that you have had in years past. Or a new one you are striving to overcome. Stop waiting for the “perfect” timing, nothing is perfect, the timing will never seem perfect for you. Refuse to let your procrastination take over your life. If you have something on your list to accomplish, JUST DO IT. Don’t let next year be another year where you are sitting on your goals and plans, get started today! With each New Year brings new hopes and new opportunities. We are blessed to simply wake up each day... take this day to get it right.

I only seem to be a morning person on one day of the year, Christmas.
Christmas has always been such a magical time.....Or  maybe it is just the anticipation of opening all the gifts. Either way, it is such a special time to spend with your loved ones and make a few messes memories.

I hope you all have a blessed day!

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to All

 Happy Christmas Eve my friends.
Santa Clause is coming to town!
SANTA! OH MY GOD! SANTA'S COMING! I KNOW HIM! I KNOW HIM! {yes in the Will Ferrell voice from Elf. I bet that is exactly how you said it too, am I right?}  Seriously y'all, I feel like such a kid this time of year. I get so excited and giddy around Christmas time, you would think I was 5. I just love Christmas! I can listen to Christmas music in my car, at work and come home and watch Christmas movies and wrap a few gifts and it does not get old. Hubby might get a little annoyed, but I can watch a few certain movies time and time again. When I am shopping if a little jingle comes on, I often find myself singing to it. I'm singing/I'm in a store/and I'm siiiiiingiiiiing!/I'm in a store/and I'm siiiiiingiiiiing! If you know me, it isn't exactly music to your ears if you know what I mean. But hey - it makes me happy.
I think there is more excitement in Christmas Eve than any other day in December. The pure excitement and anticipation of all the good things to come on Christmas Day is magical. And of course we can't forget this is when Santa comes! I couldn't be more excited about spending the next few days getting comfy, cozy and jolly with my family, friends and loved ones and of course I won't mind unwrapping a few presents while I'm at it.

I hope you all have an incredible time with your families
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!

As we near the time of Christmas, we see the decorations going up. The people shopping for gifts and all the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season. Now is the time to stop and reflect just why we really celebrate this time. The real meaning of Christmas and why it is a time of celebration and what that celebration means to all who will believe. If there were no Jesus, there would be no Christmas.

The Gift of Giving

When I was younger, it was hard for me to understand how giving was better than receiving. Probably because I had a wish list for Santa from the day after Christmas to Christmas Eve the next year.

Of course it was exciting to be the first one waking up super early in the morning... tip toeing down the hallway so I wouldn't wake anyone all the way into the living room to see all of the Christmas presents Santa had for me. I would carefully move around all the presents until I found those with my name. It was a pretty great feeling to be receiving all of those gifts.

Now that I am on my own, I get it. I get an incredible feeling when I give to others. The feeling of donating to someone that is less fortunate so they can enjoy a Christmas that otherwise wouldn't be possible. The feeling of making something yourself that someone will always keep. The feeling of hand selecting a gift for each person you love.  The feeling you get when you know that special someone will be oh so happy when they open your gift. All of those feelings make it all completely worth it. Although Christmas is not actually about gifts, it sure gives us a good feeling when we are able to do something for someone else. Gifts are not about how much money you spent on one another, it is about the thought put into it. Be thoughtful in your giving in kind while receiving.
Merry Christmas from my family to yours!

Dear Santa....

Dear World... Thank you for not coming to an end. I woke up this morning feeling fabulous - sorry Mayans, you knew a lot - but this world will keep on going. Dear Santa... What's up big guy? I know this is your busiest time of the year and all but please remember your favorite Arkansas girl. This is just a reminder that I've been very good this year. Please give me patients to deal with all of these crazy customers until Christmas. Please take away the road rage I've had lately when idiots cut me off or slam on their breaks to turn and don't use their blinkers. Please bring us a little snow. There is just something about having snow on this is only the second time all year I have worn a coat. Please plant a money tree in my yard so I can have all the things I dream about aka pin on Pinterest. Dear Cold.... I feel you coming on and I don't like it. Please go away completely - I do not want to be sick during Christmas. Dear Nails... You are looking all things but fabulous right now - we need to get this fixed. Dear Hubby... I thought you were joking when you told me you were going to buy me a shotgun to keep under the bed for nights when you are away. I love that you care about me but dang... I feel sorry if anyone ever tries to break in or do anything to me! (Protective hubby with guns). Dear Family, blogging family, and friends... I love you all and hope you have a very Merry Christmas

While hubby goes hunting, I get domesticated.
He was gone for 3 days on an out of town duck hunt so I had a little extra time on my hands.

In my search for new holiday items to try and share, I came across peppermint bark.
Unlike the average bark you see around the holidays that was laid on a sheet and unevenly divided, this bark looks to good to be coming out of my kitchen! When I saw this recipe with a mix of chocolate and white chocolate, I knew I wanted to try it.

via pinterest
I pinned this recipe weeks ago and was able to find an identical mold on Etsy. Unfortunately it came from China so it was a few weeks before it got here.

8oz brown chocolate (your favorite)
8oz white chocolate
2 tsp vegetable oil, divided
1/2 tsp peppermint extract, divided
candy canes or peppermint candies, crushed
The recipe didn't say how many peppermints to use so I just used my own judgement. At first I used a chopper to crush them but it was doing it too finely. Another way is to place the peppermints in a baggie and beat with a meat tenderizer (or heavy object). After you beat the peppermints, sift the excess peppermint "dust" out.
In a heat safe bowl, add brown chocolate and half of the vegetable oil. I used semi-sweet chocolate. Melt chocolate at 50% power in 30 second intervals. Stir well after each heating. When fully melted, stir in half of the peppermint extract. Pour chocolate into mold and spread out evenly.  I used a small spoon to divide among my snowflake mold. Sprinkle with a small amount of candy cane pieces, preferably some of the smaller pieces. Transfer to the fridge for 30-60 minutes or until fully set and hardened.
Repeat melting process with white chocolate: white chocolate plus 1 tsp vegetable oil in a heat safe bowl. Heat at 50% power in 30 second intervals, stiring well each time. Add the remaining 1/4 tsp peppermint extract, stir well. Pour over brown chocolate, or divide equally among molds or shapes. Tap tray or mold to spread chocolate out. Sprinkle with remaining candy cane pieces. Transfer to the fridge for an additional 30-60 minutes or until fully hardened.

Carefully remove chocolate from molds, serve and enjoy!

A Heavy Heart

Like all of you, I am deeply saddened by the shooting in Newtown, CT. While I didn't plan on posting about this today, it has been heavily on my mind. Each time I turn on the TV it is a reminder of the pure disbelief we are all in of the current events. I am not yet a mother and cannot fathom how those parents must feel, especially at this special time of year.
It is beyond me why someone would take so many precious innocent children's lives so tragically.
Although there seems to be more tragedy than good that is in the news, I urge you to BE THE GOOD.  We all have good days, bad days, and just okay days. Through hearing about tragic events such as these, it makes me want to go home and hug my family a little tighter, enjoy the little things, and make each moment meaningful....for one day you will realize these little things were the most special times spent together.

On Tuesday, December 18th, there will be a blogger day of silence.
We will post the button and that's it. Please try to not post anything else that day if possible.

We are also raising money that will go to an organization in the memory of this tragedy. The organization is called The Newtown Family Youth and Family Services. Here is the official description of the support service we are donating to:

"Newtown Youth and Family Services, Inc. is a licensed, non-profit, mental health clinic and youth services bureau dedicated to helping children and families achieve their highest potential. NYFS provides programs, services, activities, counseling, support groups and education throughout the Greater Newtown area.

Please visit THIS PAGE to make your donation.

We can't imagine how they must be feeling, especially this close to the holidays. We would love for you to spread the word on your own blog, Facebook, Twitter, etc. Let's make a difference and use blogging in a positive way. Thank you in advance for participating.

Dear Mariah.... No one can sing this song quite like you. It has always been one of my holiday favorites. I hope you all enjoy the song as you read the rest of my letters today. Dear Friday... Is that you? I can't even keep up with my days of the week anymore. Probably because I pretty much work M-Sun now that it is Christmas time. I feel like I get home, go to bed and it's back to work again. I see a vacation needed in my near future. Dear Shopping.... why do you have to be so far away from where I live. Yes, I am an avid online shopper now but when it takes me 45 minutes to get to somewhere decent it makes it hard for the times I need to pick something up quickly. #smalltownproblems. Dear Hubby.... I have absolutely loved my Acura since you bought it for me, but those new Jeep Grande Cherokees sure do look pretty when I pass them on the road. I'm thinking we need to go car shopping soon. birthday is next month! Dear Chiropractor... You worked wonders on me the other day. THANK YOU! Dear Self... You need to buy some bigger frames to hang/sit some of our gorgeous wedding photos. You also need to buy a wedding photo album.

Booty booty booty

This year, I am loving booties! I have always loved boots even though it is sometimes hard to find ones that fit me right. Damn you big calves. Why can't they make boots for NORMAL women. I mean really... I am no size 0 but is it too much to ask? This is where booties have become my friend. Booties are just short boots.  Flat, platformed or heeled they come in all varieties. The best part about them is that they are versatile enough to wear them with just about anything.  Booties can be made to look dressy or casual. This style has definitely been a staple for me this season, especially at work when I can't be as casual. Haven't tried booties yet? Give it a try, they come in all price ranges and have quickly become some of my favorites.

12 Things

December 12, 2012

Of course we have heard all the talk about the Mayans and how the Mayan calendar speaks of this time as the end of time as we know it. You turn on the TV and certain channels have had those "doomsday preppers" shows on constantly that are preparing for the end of civilization. Well... it is another day here in the Natural State.
Nothing exciting going on here today, so I thought I would share with you 12 things just because.
1.) I am not attending a wedding today. Congratulations to the thousands of people who are getting  married on 12/12/12 at 12:12. You and every other couple today are very original.  At least it will be easy for your husband to remember your anniversary.

2.) After today, I do not have another day off work until Dec 23rd! Then I have to work on Christmas Eve :( It's the holiday season.... in retail. All I've got to say as you men better come buy some big diamonds and make it worth my time. I can think of so many other things I would love to be doing. Like watching ELF for the 20th time and actually getting to try out some of these Pinterest crafts I've pinned.

3.) If I am a little MIA on blogger, Instagram or Twitter in the next two weeks, please refer back to #2.

4.) I am considering buying an Elf on the Shelf after seeing how all of you move yours around each night for your children. Whoever came up with that idea was brilliant.

5.) Hubby and I watched the Adam Sandler movie "That's My Boy" last night and I thought it was hilarious!! I love a good laugh and this is one that I could actually watch again.

6.) Dear Santa, I've been very good this year

7.) I could buy so much more Christmas Decor but hubby doesn't want me to... He just doesn't get it. Of course I get (most) of it on sale. I think I'll go the day after Christmas and snag some stuff!
8.) I'm obsessed with my new Blake Shelton Christmas CD!

9.) My husband is in BIG trouble when he gets home. He has this habit of deleting the shows I DVR that I save to watch on my days off... went to watch a few shows I was looking forward to today and they were GONE

10.) I am glad the weather in Arkansas finally got out of the was perfect weather but it didn't exactly feel like it was Christmas time. The first time I pulled out a coat was yesterday!

11.) After Christmas I NEED to get back to my old work out routine. Thank goodness I haven't gained weight, but I just love the feeling of a good work out!

12.) Dear Santa, have I mentioned I was very good this year?

Wrap Me Up

I am always looking for fun accessories or trends that are inexpensive and can be fun to wear or use for the current season. While perusing Pinterest and other blogs, I have noticed a lot of cute scarves this season.  The weather is finally starting to get a little cooler here in Arkansas.
This means it is time for this girl to start breaking out the scarves. Polka dots, aztec prints and chevron are all the rage right now. If you don't want to spend all that money on a trendy print sweater or cardigan, try picking out these latest prints in a scarf. So pull out that big sweater, colored leggings and boots and add your pop of color with your scarf and accessories and you've got yourself the perfect winter go-to outfit.
Here are many ways you can wear a scarf with your wardrobe.

Smiling's My Favorite

It's the holiday season!
As Christmas is fast approaching, everywhere you look there is Christmas cheer. All the shopping centers are beautifully decorated with lights, garlands and wreaths. Our favorite movies are on each night. We get to enjoy our favorite seasonal beverages and Christmas songs. We get excited to come home to a beautifully decorated tree and all the pretty pretty presents perfectly wrapped beneath it. We are trying new Pinterest crafts and recipes. We keep up with our friends, families and how everyone places their Elf on the Shelf each night as their children are sleeping.  It is an exciting time of year. But with all that excitement also comes a little stress. I sometimes find myself getting caught up in things that can be a little overwhelming. I am working more days and longer hours and sometimes it can just be tiring. I still want to make sure I am able to spend time with my friends and family and do the things I want to do that truly make me happy this time of year. When this happens, I think about one of my favorite Christmas movies and just SMILE. It's amazing how that can change your mood.

To Whom it May Concern

Dear Bloggers... I thought I would start off by showing you a picture of two of my favorite things. Seasonal beverages in the famous little red cup and Christmas lights. Dear Delivery Men.... Yes, I am aware you have stopped by my house nearly every day since last Monday. Do you see a correlation? You're welcome for keeping your job going. #successfulcybermonday Dear Headaches.... Please go away. I am tired of you coming nearly every day. Dear Piko Tops I ordered... I hope you live up to all the hype. Dear ABC Family.... I LOVE that it is 25 days of Christmas and you are playing so many of my favorite Christmas movies. Dear Uncle Si... You are my favorite Christmas El. Dear Christmas Tree... You are so much more beautiful with gifts wrapped underneath you. Dear Bentley.... I am so sorry I had to take you to the Vet yesterday. It just breaks my heart to see you get violated + all those shots. Luckily it is just once a year! I hope you enjoy your new toys and treats you spoiled little thing. Dear Readers.... I get to mark one more thing off my Christmas Bucket List. I rang the bell for the Salvation Army yesterday. It makes my heart happy to help those in need. I couldn't believe how generous everyone was.

Christmas Overload

Heeeeeeey Sexy Ladies!
It's Wednesday, which means I am sharing with you a few of my Instagram pictures.
Link up with Jenn and share a few of yours!

A few steps of me making my outdoor garland.
This is a total of 6 garlands. I didn't want one really narrow because I knew I wanted to add a lot to it. I found these pre-lit garlands at Hobby Lobby on sale for $10 a piece. Then I layed it out on my floor so I could see how it would be on my door. I added the deco mesh, ribbon and then ornaments.
Once I hung the garland (had to use screws in the mortar because my brick clips wouldn't work) I added the flowers and picks at the top. I went back and added a little more but didn't get a get the idea :)

It is even more pretty during the day!!

My mantle Garland. I'm obsessed with this one. I just love how the ornaments are a few of my favorites that are also on my tree. I have been considering changing the mesh to red to match my tree better but I'm not sure.. thoughts?

Lazy evenings
I can't believe it has already been 5 years. Time goes so fast.

Red Lips aren't the norm for me, but I was feeling fierce.

Excited about Blake Shelton's new Christmas CD

My mother in law surprised me with Michael Buble's Christmas CD last week, so when I
went to buy Blake Shelton's CD, I got one for her too.

Some people might not care, but I was excited!

Blake Shelton's Christmas special made me happy. It was so funny...and I LOVE that song he sang with Miranda at the end of the show, even though she was drunk it was still good.
One more Christmas Wreath!
