Motivational Monday
Do you ever feel like something is dragging you down
Something that is frequently on your mind
Something that is causing you to have a bad day
Something is giving you unwanted stress or anxiety
A part about me that I have not really shared with all of you is my anxiety
I have not always had it
I know the cause of it
I know that I do not need to turn to medication to deal with it
I know ways of coping with it
I am trying to overcome it
I'm sure you have all heard people ask if you look at the glass half empty or half full.
Have you ever had anyone ask you what the weight of the glass is?
....Strange question, right?
Well here is a new way of looking at things.
I want to share with you something that I recently read by an unknown author.
I have taken the words and changed them a bit but this is what I got from it:
-----> The Weight of the Glass <-----
The weight of the glass does not matter. It is how long you hold it that does. If you are holding it temporarily it is not a problem. The weight of the glass will not bother you. If you hold it for a few hours it starts to give you an aches and pains. If you hold it for a day you will feel numb. The longer you hold the glass, the heavier it becomes.... even though the actual weight does not change.
Now imagine that the stresses and worries in your life are the weight of the glass.
If you hold onto it for a few minutes - nothing happens
If you hold onto it for a few hours - they begin to hurt and bother you
If you hold onto it for a day - you will feel like you are incapable of doing anything
You let the stress and worries overcome you by continuously thinking of them
The longer you hold onto things, the heavier they become
It is important to let go of your stresses as early as you can
Carrying them with you will only make it worse
This is something hard to accomplish, I know
but
I am trying
wow....I never thought of it that way, as far as the whole weight thing goes! Thank you for sharing! Anxiety/worry is something I have struggled with since I was pretty young and I'm sure you know how frustrating and crippling it can be.
ReplyDeleteI love this post because it is so so true. It's hard to not let the weight of the stresses we have get us down, but it's something we have to work on everyday. Worrying less is definitely one of my New Years goals...I will keep the weight of the glass story in mind when I start to feel overwhelmed :)
Happy Monday, dear! I hope you have a great week :):)

I love the thought of "how long you hold onto the stress" makes things worse. It is so true! Thanks for the encouragement to let go!
ReplyDeleteI never thought of stress that way, as a glass of water whose weight keeps growing heavier the longer you hold it. I love this post! Thank you for sharing this :)
ReplyDeleteloving this!! i think too many people hold onto stress as a reason to keep down in the dumps or to keep playing the victim card not realizing it is a choice whether to keep the stress or not, just gotta let it go!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your heart sweet girl. I absolutely dealt with anxiety, and just this year started a thanksgiving journal, which has been HUGE in helping me give thanks for what I have. I've also learned to deal with my expectations head on, and embrace situations as they are instead of what I want them to be. That's helped too:) Beautiful , thanks for sharing!! love Katie
